The band had the honour today of taking park in the unfurling of the new Bearpark Banner. The banner is absolutely stunning and it was very emotional playing Gresford while the back of the banner was uncovered, with it depicting some of the miners from years ago.
It was wonderful to see some of the miners that worked down Bearpark Pit at the concert today, their reaction to the banner being very moving. A big thank you goes to Bearpark Banner Group for inviting us to take part.

The band performed today at the 2025 North of England Brass Band Championships at the Gala Theatre in Durham. The band had their pre-contest rehearsal at Nando's in Durham - our thanks goes to David Elliot for arranging this, the support is very much appreciated. Also, a big thank you goes to Walkergate for their continued support of the band as well. You can see their write up on the band rehearsing at Nando's here.
The result was not for us today, but we were happy with how we played which is the most important part. All of our soloists throughout the piece were fantastic and thoroughly deserved the wonderful comments from the two adjudicators. A big thank you goes to our players for their time and dedication they have shown in the preparation running up to the contest. We would also like to say a massive thank you to Matt Roberts, Michael Cavanagh, Gareth Chester, Iain McNeil & Tom Cooke for coming back to help us get on stage today with a full band. We really appreciate your support at contest times. The biggest thank you though goes to our conductor for today, Steve Robson. He has worked tirelessly to prepare the band well for today, by travelling many miles up and down the motorway to attend rehearsals. As a band, he has shown so much commitment and we are grateful for this. He is a valued and very good friend of the band and are thrilled he has had this opportunity to spend the last two and a half months working with him. The band now look ahead to our next set of concerts over the coming weeks. A big congratulations to Ferryhill Town Band and Dunston Silver Band who have qualified for the National Finals in Cheltenham. We wish you the very best of luck for September.
