The band has started our summer concert season by performing to a large audience at the wonderful bandstand at Saltburn, hosted by the Saltburn 500 Club. Gavin chose a programme that had a little something in it for everyone and went down very well with the people who came along to listen in the great weather. The soloists today were David Thomas on Euphonium playing Czardas, Lindsey Rowell on Horn playing One Day in your Life, Nicola Evans on Flugel playing By Trevone Bay and Gareth Young on Trombone playing Hello. Dan Nixon was also featured in Queen's - I Want to Break Free. We are lucky within the band to have so many soloists and this is just a select few of the soloists. A big thank you goes to Sue, Jonathan, James and Jacob for helping us out today. Your help is very much appreciated as always.

Today has seen the band compete at the DCBBA Brass @ Beamish March & Hymn Contest. Although it was not the result the band wanted - the band worked hard to prepare our march and hymn. On a very hot day, and with a draw of performing first, it was a performance to be proud of. Mind, we did come away with the best 3rd section band. A big thank you goes to Andrew, Lisa and Geoff for helping us out today. The band has been entertainment for guests as part of the Association of Independent Museums social evening at Beamish Museum. AIM is currently hosting a two day sell out conference at Ushaw College for any associated with the heritage sector. It was great to see friends from Ushaw College and provided a varied programme of music for all. A big thank you goes to Jeremy, who was our helper for tonight on Horn. Your help is very much appreciated. Today has seen the band perform at a brand new contest - Clans vs Counties Contest, hosted at Queen's Hall Art Centre in Hexham - with a 20 minute entertainment programme. The element of the contest, was for bands between North East England and Scotland. The theme used, was the same programme to which we played at Picnic in the Park - which was "Light". As part of our programme, visuals were used to portray the theme, which was projected behind the band as the performance was ongoing. The final position for the band was 8th place, so it wasn't the result that we wanted, but were up against some fantastic bands. Another congratulations goes to our Flugel player, Nicola Evans, who picked up the prize for the Best Instrumentalist prize - as like she did at Picnic in the Park, she played First Light and featured a lot in our 'Light' themed programme. John Doyle, our adjudicator for today stated in the remarks that he thought the whole band owed her a drink. There are many thank yous to which we'd like to thank for their help towards this contest.
