The band played to a very appreciative audience at South Shields Amphitheatre this afternoon. A warm and sunny day meant we were able to try out our new band caps, which have been purchased for the summer season.
Today's soloists were Sue York on Solo Baritone playing We have all the Time in the World, Lindsey Rowell on Solo Horn playing An Untold Story & David Thomas on Solo Euphonium playing Blaydon Races. Today also saw David and Lindsey debut a brand new duet, Tell Him arranged by our solo Trombone player Matt. A big thank you as always go to our dep players, Nic, Louise, Ian, Jeremy and Kim. Your help is much appreciated. The band are nearing the end of our summer season with only two concerts left to do. We are returning to Saltburn this Sunday (4th August) 2:30pm-4pm and then Wharton Park in Durham on the 11th August 1pm-3pm. We hope to see many of you there.

If you have missed us this weekend, don't panic, we will be performing at South Shields Amphitheatre next Sunday (28th July), 3:30pm and back here on the 4th August at 2:30pm. The band had an enjoyable afternoon in the wonderful surroundings of Ushaw Historic House, Chapels & Gardens chapel. A packed audience filled the chapel while listening to a superb programme picked by our conductor Will.
It had something for everyone and features some of the bands excellent soloists. Today we heard Lindsey Rowell on Solo Horn, Sue York on Solo Baritone and David Thomas on Solo Euphonium. Tomorrow we venture over the Saltburn by the Sea to play in their wonderful band stand 2:30 till 4pm. Give us a wave if you come along for a listen. Tonight the band went out for a well deserved night out to celebrate our solo cornet player, Leila's 18th Birthday and also to say a temporary good bye to her for September when she embarks on her new adventure at Sunderland University. It's not good bye though as she will still be popping back to play when her studies allow. We have had a great night even though the bowling became quite competitive.
Tonight the band played a fantastic concert as part of the The Auckland Project Summer Fest concert series.
In the superb backdrop of Auckland Castle the band took to the stage to entertain the audience who braved the rain. As well as something for everyone we featured Lindsey Rowell on Solo Horn, Nicola Evans on Flugel and David Thomas on Euphonium as tonight's fabulous soloists. A big thank you to our deps Yvan, Alex, Nic, David and Ian. Your help is much appreciated as always. If you missed us tonight you can find us at Ushaw Historic House, Chapels & Gardens this coming Saturday 2:30pm till 4:30pm and Saltburn Bandstand on Sunday 2:30 till 4pm. The band had a fantastic but albeit wet day yesterday at Durham Miners Gala. Here are a few photos of our day. We would like to say a big thank you to seven players from Darwen Brass who made the journey up to play with us along with our regular deps Steady, James, Yvan and Ben. Your help is very much appreciated.
We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our newest recruit to the band. Gavin, joins us on the cornet section and the Gala was his first official job with the band. We hope you have a long and happy time with the band. This afternoon saw the band perform at the Esh Winning Residents Association Family Fun Day. Despite the very wet start the rain soon cleared to leave a fantastic afternoon of fun filled activities for all the family and all free.
The Residents Association work hard all year to bring such a brilliant day and we are honoured to be apart of it. A big thank you everyone involved. We also want to say a massive thank you to our Solo Trombone player Matt, for conducting today and to Joe, Charlie and Harriet for helping us out. It is very much appreciated. |
