Tommy Walker, a long serving member of the Band announced his retirement from playing tonight. Tommy started playing Cornet in 1944 in the Salvation Army where he stayed until 1959. He stopped playing for many years before joining Esh Colliery Band in 1970. Moved to Langley Park Band in 1985 and then Sacriston Band until 1992, he came back to this Band in February 1997. Tommy had a heart attack in the band hall in November 1998, this gave everyone else one too! We would like to wish Tommy all the best for the future and hope he will pop into see us whenever he can.
11 members of the Band played at the Durham County Foundation AGM. This new ensemble unofficially called themselves "Coal Dust". They are available for bookings for weddings etc. Just contact the Band.
The Band learned that our treasurer Margaret O'Connelly had broken her ankle. We wish her well and a speedy recovery. Also our Principal Trombone, Brian Scurfield, is having a rough time at the moment and will be off playing for a while. We also wish Brian the best and a speedy recovery.
It is with great sadness that the Band heard of the death of one of its former members. George Harvey (92) played the bass with Band since 1967. After a short break George re-joined the Band in the 80's and stayed for a number of years before finally retiring from playing. Our thought's are with George's family.
The Band Website is 1 Year Old today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
