The last job of the weekend was in Durham Market Place to continue the Christmas in Durham weekend. Still on a high from her performance last night with the band, Leila who is one of our learners, came back to have a listen with her parents. Michael surprised her by offering his cornet so she could play Silent Night with the band. A Big Well Done goes to Leila!. Also, a big thank you goes to Kym, Wayne and Alan for helping us out today. We really do appreciate it.
The Band have performed at Millennium Place in Durham today. There were a lot of lovely comments from the general public and many of our up tempo Christmas pieces going down a storm. A Big Thank You goes to Wayne and Sean for helping us out this morning. The Band is playing at Quebec tonight and will be back in the Market Place tomorrow afternoon.
Tonight saw The Band playing at Quebec Village Hall for the annual Christmas Concert tonight. It was great to welcome our learners Leila and Pauline to play carols along with the senior band. They both did a fantastic job and the Band are very proud of you. A big thank you to Kym and John for helping us out tonight.
Today saw the Band perform at the 1st Christmas job of the season at a rather chilly Dalton Park. A massive thank you goes to all the general public who put a donation into our collecting buckets and also a big thank you to Kym for helping us out today.
The Band had a fantastic Social Night Out tonight at Chiquito in Durham, celebrating in true Mexican style. The calm before the busy Christmas playing begins. The Mexican hats were a hit! Everybody has had a fantastic night. A Big Thank You goes to Nicola, our Soprano Player, for sorting it all out and all the staff serving our group.
Tonight, the Band held their Annual AGM and Presentation Awards tonight. The Bands Life President, Bill Lamb presented the presentations.
Many congratulations goes to Ray Lee for his 30 Years Continuous Service, Thompson Minnis for 15 Years Continuous Service, Doreen Lambeth for 10 Years Continuous Service and Richard Evans for 10 Years Continuous Service. Most Improved Player was awarded to Daniel Maitre, Most Improved Section was the Euphonium Section, Player of the Year went to Alan Beaumont and Bandsperson of the Year went to Marion Waterworth. There were 2 smaller presentations which went to Marion Waterworth and Peter Elcoat for the hard work in which they put in for organising and preparing the Band for the National Finals which were held in September. The Band has also commissioned a memorial trophy in memory of Raymond Evans. This will be awarded to the youngest player in the winning band of the 4th Section at the North of England Brass Band Championships. The band felt this was a fitting tribute to a man who gave up a lot of his time teaching youngsters. Good luck to all our North East 4th sections bands next year. It was an honour to be apart of the biggest Remembrance Parade outside of London this morning in Sunderland. The band lead the emergency services and the mayor down to the cenotaph. We then played two hymns, Gresford and Jerusalem before playing the march 1914 for the march past. A big thank you to Steady and Garry for helping us out today.
This Weekend has seen the Band go into Whitewolf Recording Studios to start recording the first half of the Brand New Band CD. The Band would like to say a massive thank you to the following:
The Band sounded great and we look forward to the finished product being ready in 12 months time.
