It was with great sadness that the Band learnt that one of our most respected members, David Young, resigned from the Band.  The Band would like to thank David for many years service both as a player and conductor.  We wish him all the best for the future and our band room door is always open to him.

Band performed at Elvet Methodist Church with Guest Soloist, Alan Morrison

The Band staged yet another successful concert tonight in Elvet Methodist Church with guest soloist Alan Morrison.  There was a premiere of a new march composed for the Band and dedicated to the miners of the North East by the Band's Principal Percussionist, Alan Beaumont, the march is called 'The Pitmen', although Alan's father, Doug, was rushed to hospital during the concert.  We are happy to let you know that Doug has been released from hospital and his feeling better.  Our very own David Young gave a great performance of Bach's Toccata and Fugue on the church organ, this led into the rock version.  Alan Morrison played to his usual high standards and amazed and entertained the Band, never mind the audience.  Alan also said some very kind things about the Band which only helps us to try and go onto better things.  (Thanks Alan).  After an eventful night, Alan Beaumont was taken to hospital to see his dad, the Band packed all the kit away into the van, kindly loaned to us by Ian & Sonia of the Royal Oak Pub in Cornsay Colliery (Thanks Ian & Sonia), Alan got back, jumped into the drivers seat and the Van wouldn't start.  Thanks to Michael Evans, who not only joined Alan Morrison in playing a trio along with Garry Mitchell, but also turned back from going home to get the van going.  What a Band.
