The Band was in Hartlepool today to defend their title in the Hartlepool Council Contest, unfortunately the Band came 3rd this time round, although we were happy with the performance.
Peter Smith, our 2nd Euphonium player resigned from the band.
The Band played to a near capacity audience which included many past members, at Elvet Methodist Church, Durham, in their 50th Anniversary Concert. The guest soloist was Alan Morrison who captivated the audience with his virtuoso cornet playing. Also the Fanfare "Golden" which was composed by the Band's Percussionist Alan Beaumont for the occasion, had it's premier playing, and a debut for a new member, 'Sandy' who's real name will remain anonymous. The Band would like to thank our Secretary, Marion Waterworth, for all her hard work in making this event happen.
It was announced at the concert that our Musical Director, Andrew Hall, has asked his girlfriend Ann to marry him, (Ann said yes by the way). The Band presented them with a gift and would like to wish them all the best for their future happiness.
Alan Beaumont breaks down on the way to a Charity Concert and does not make it. Many thanks to our President, Ray Lee, of Newton Grange Service Station for coming to Alan's aid and lending him a car.
