The band would like to say a huge thank you to the good people of Durham who dug deep to support our fundraising effort today. We collected an amazing £483.43 in our buckets while performing in the market place. We would also like to say thank you to Durham Markets for their continued support and to our deps David and Beth. Your help and support is very much appreciated.
Tomorrow we are competing in the Picnic in the park competition on Durham Racecourse. If you are in the area bring a picnic and come and give us a cheer from 11am.

Today the band performed at one of our favourite venues, South Shields Amphitheatre. Despite battling with the wind, pegs and music, the band enjoyed playing to a very appreciative audience. Today we featured solos from Jonathan, our Solo Euphonium player, Gareth, one of our Eb Bass players, and Leila , one of our 2nd Cornet players.
Next week we are competing in the Picnic in the Park competition in Durham, so today was a chance to give the good people of South Tyneside a sneak peek of our programme. Big thank yous go to our deps for today. Tony, Jimmy, Beth and especially Peter who gave up his birthday to spend it with us. Your help is very much appreciated. The band were engaged to play at a private event with the National Morgan Sports Car Club for Mogfest 2022 today. We performed in the wonderful venue of Beamish Museum on their events field and provided background music while everyone looked around the Magnificent Morgans! The band would like to welcome our latest signings. Beth Johnson and Michael Fairless have both joined us to help out at the National Finals in Cheltenham. Sarah Daly (pictured) has joined us on Solo Cornet after moving back into the area from Scotland. We hope she has a long and happy time with the band after playing at her first concert today at Beamish. The band have performed today at an Open Day, organised by Hargreaves. It was nice to have a job very close to home with just a short walk from the band hall. A very enjoyable event for families with rides, face painting, a chance to look at their fleet and delicious hot food on the BBQ.
A big thank you goes to Carley for helping us out on the horn section today. We really appreciate your help. Today has seen the band play at the Esh Winning Platinum Jubilee celebrations. It was so nice to see so many of the local community out celebrating. A big thank you goes to the Esh Winning Residents Association for organising such a great day.
We would also like to formally welcome Gareth Chester to the band on Eb Bass. This is his second official band job, but the first where he stood up and played the bass solo, The Bass in the Ballroom. He did a sterling job, and is an asset to our Bass section. We hope he has a long and happy time with the band. Tonight saw some of the band girls going out cocktail making to celebrate our solo cornet player, Valerie's hen do. After so long, it was great to get out socialising again and have a laugh. We look forward to playing at their wedding.
Today has seen the band perform at the first job of the 2022 Summer Season at Beamish Museum. It was great to see so many people out enjoying themselves as we played to a busy park in the town.
Today saw the band compete in the 2022 North of England Brass Band Championships in the 2nd section and we were placed in 2nd place. This means that the band have been invited to the National Finals in Cheltenham in September. A massive well done to the band and to our conductor Phillip Tait for the hard work that went into preparing our performance over the last 3 months.
The band are delighted to have signed the fantastic Angelo Bearpark to the team ahead of the North of England Area Championships in March. Angelo will be stepping into the Principal Cornet seat on the day and completes the final piece of the jigsaw ahead of the contest. We are very much looking forward to working with him and learning a lot from his wealth of experience. As part of the band's preparation for the North of England Brass Band Championships in March, we held a workshop style rehearsal and welcomed Brett Baker, Stephanie Binns and Adam Reed from Black Dyke Band and Beth Carabine from NASUWT Riverside Band as our tutors for the day.
The band worked incredibly hard taking onboard all of the valuable hints, tips and feedback our tutors gave. As an associated band, we would like to say a big thank you to Geneva Instruments for sponsoring the day and to Tony Thompson from NASUWT Riverside for stepping in to help out on the front row. We would also like to thank the headteacher, Alison of West Rainton Primary School for allowing us to use the school facilities as our venue. The final two appearances for the band and their christmas season has been playing at Sainsbury's at the Arnison Centre, in Durham (22nd and 23rd December). The band would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has dug deep these last two days to support us while you have been shopping, it really is appreciated.
Tonight saw the band playing at Beamish Museum's Christmas Evenings in the Town Bandstand. It was great to be back spreading some Christmas cheer for the public visiting the museum.
Tonight has seen the band spreading some Christmas cheer in Tesco at Gilesgate tonight. A massive thank you to Joanne Reay Community Champion for hosting us and to the general public who donated generously in our collecting buckets. The band also went live with our new contactless card payment machine for donations.
This weekend has seen the band perform at the next 2 jobs for the Christmas season. The first was on Saturday 11th at Langley Park Primary School for the Esh Parish Council's Christmas Fair. A big thank you goes to Sam for helping us out today.
The 2nd job of the weekend was at Quebec Village Hall on Sunday 12th. It was the band's pleasure to perform to an appreciative audience, along with spreading some Christmas cheer. The soloists for the evening were Lindsey Rowell on Solo Horn and a duet by Leila Davison and Nicola Evans. A big thank you goes to Michael Fairless for conducting and to Sam for helping us out on Euphonium.
Today has seen the band perform at the first two Christmas engagements of 2021. The first was in the morning at Durham Christmas Festival. It was fantastic to see so many people stopping and listening to the band and also seeing our youngest member Sophie listening to us play. A big thank you goes to everyone who put a donation in our collecting buckets. It's really appreciated.
The band held its yearly AGM and Presentation Evening tonight. It was great to see all the band come together face to face to celebrate the yearly achievements. Well done to all of our award winners, and a special congratulations to all of our members who received service awards this year. We are honoured to have members that show amazing continuous commitment to our band like those above. Thank you to all of you and thank you to our life president, Dr. Bill Lamb, for presenting our awards.

Today has seen the band take part in the Remembrance Parade at Sunderland, one of the largest outside of London, alongside our friends in the Royal Signal (Northern) Band. We lead the emergency services and veterans down to the cenotaph. It was a great privilege and pleasure to finally be able to honour our veterans and the fallen in person.
At the going down of the sun and the morning, we will remember them. The band performed at Community Theatre in Saltburn, for a very appreciative audience today. The band would like to thank the good people of Saltburn for always making us feel very welcome. We would like to thank David on Euphonium for helping us out today. We really appreciate it.
Tonight, the band had the privilege of playing in the wondering St Thomas' Church in Stanley Crook, for a concert donated by the band to help raise much needed funds and prevent it's closure. As you can see from the first image in the gallery, the audience thoroughly enjoyed themselves with our varied programme ending with the audience flag waving for our "Last Night of the Proms" finale. We featured many of our talented soloists: Michael Evans on Cornet, Nicola Evans on Flugel, Jonathan Wigham on Euphonium and Gareth Poole on Soprano.

Today, the band took part in the 'Little Big Meeting' at West Rainton. It was an honour to parade the brand new banner 'Adventure Lodge' through the streets of West Rainton from the Primary school to St Mary’s Church for a blessing service.
At the halfway point of the march, the band stopped outside the old people's care home and played Sing for Victory for the residents. After the parade, the band played the Miners hymn Gresford and Be Still for the Presence of the Lord as part of the blessing service. The heavens opened but the band played on after squeezing under the gazebos. It was great to be a part of such a lovely community event. A big thank you to Beth for helping us out on the March. The band had the pleasure of providing the entertainment tonight for the wedding of Zena & Alan, who got married in the band hall at Beamish Museum tonight. The band would like to say a huge congratulations and wish them all the best for the future.
Today has seen the band play at a private wedding at St Chad's College in Durham. We were the surprise entertainment so we had to hide while the bride and groom got married. It was a lovely afternoon in the grounds and for most of us, our band jackets still fit after quite a while of not needing them!
A big congratulations to Hayley and Ian (bride and groom) from everyone in the band. We hope you enjoy the rest of your day celebrating and best wishes for the future. Today has seen the band perform at a sunny Grange Park in East Bolden. It was great to see so many people out and about enjoying our performance. Our next public performance is going to be at West Rainton on Sunday 12th September.
