2010 North of England Brass Band Championships - 3rd Section - 8th Place

The Band were placed 8th in the 3rd Section of the North of England Brass Band Championships today, the piece was Labour and Love by Percy Fletcher. We are not too disheartened as it is testament to the Band that we competed at all this year. Our Principal Cornet player (Michael Evans) slipped on the ice a couple of months ago and did a lot of damage to his mouth which resulted in him getting plastic surgery. Not wanting to miss out, Michael got himself into a position that enabled him to play 3rd Cornet at the contest, sitting alongside his son Richard (who was not impressed at having his Dad keeping an eye on him). With our Principal Cornet Player out of action, Michael's Daughter, Nicola, stepped up and took over the Principal Cornet seat and what a great job she did too. Nicola received some fantastic remarks from the adjudicator. With our front row a little short now, up stepped one of of the Band's percussionists, Alan, to take the second seat down and play the Soprano Cornet cues that Michael would have been playing. On top of all of this, our Bb Bass Player, John, suffered a collapsed lung a couple of weeks ago and could not contest, what do we do? Up steps Daniel, one of our Bass Trombonists to take over the Bb Bass parts. With all this some bands would not have contested. We did, we didn't win but we were there. Now that's contesting.
